Job Summary:

 

The On-Call Master Massage Therapist provides customized, expert-level massage services to spa guests in accordance with resort standards and licensing requirements. This role ensures the highest level of care, professionalism, and guest satisfaction during each treatment. The therapist will be called upon as needed during high-demand periods, special events, and VIP bookings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive, advanced-level therapeutic bodywork services including deep tissue, neuromuscular, lymphatic drainage, myofascial release, and integrative modalities tailored to guest-specific needs, medical history, and wellness goals.
  • Conduct detailed pre-treatment consultations and holistic assessments to evaluate physical, emotional, and energetic conditions; design customized treatment protocols aligned with the resort’s wellness philosophy.
  • Lead high-profile and VIP treatments with discretion, maintaining the highest level of guest confidentiality and anticipating needs before they are expressed.
  • Provide clinical insight and collaborate with other spa professionals (aestheticians, fitness instructors, naturopaths) to deliver integrated wellness solutions and contribute to curated guest wellness journeys.
  • Maintain impeccable treatment room environments including equipment calibration, advanced sanitation protocols, lighting, aromatherapy elements, and curated soundscapes for a multisensory experience.
  • Participate in the research, selection, and recommendation of new wellness modalities, equipment, and therapeutic enhancements to evolve the spa’s treatment menu and guest offerings.
  • Lead specialized bookings including multi-hour experiences, group wellness retreats, and pre/post-event recovery sessions.
  • Demonstrate fluency in anatomy, physiology, and contraindication management; modify treatments safely for guests with complex conditions, injuries, or medical accommodations in accordance with current licensure standards.
  • Consistently exceed guest service expectations by providing anticipatory hospitality, follow-up care, and personalized recommendations for future services or home-care solutions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 20 years of hands-on experience in massage therapy within a luxury resort, high-end spa, or wellness retreat environment.
  • Valid Utah State Massage Therapy License in good standing; dual or multi-state licensure preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple advanced modalities, including but not limited to deep tissue, myofascial release, sports massage, prenatal massage, lymphatic drainage, and Thai massage.
  • Formal certification in at least two specialized techniques (e.g., craniosacral therapy, neuromuscular therapy, reflexology, or structural integration).
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and the therapeutic benefits of holistic and integrative wellness practices.
  • Proven ability to develop individualized treatment plans and modify techniques based on guest needs, physical limitations, and therapeutic goals.
  • Previous experience working with VIP guests, high-performance athletes, or wellness retreat clientele.
  • Exceptional communication, emotional intelligence, and guest intuition with a strong emphasis on discretion and professionalism.
  • Proficiency with spa scheduling and POS systems (e.g., Book4Time, SpaSoft or similar), including treatment documentation and retail sales tracking.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with wellness practitioners, estheticians, fitness instructors, and resort leadership to provide a fully integrated spa experience.
