Overview

Are you ready to help shape the future of travel and hospitality? CoralTree is seeking an Area Director of Finance to join our team at the Woodlands Resort, Westin and Embassy Suites.  As the Area Director of Finance, you'll provide daily management of the accounting, purchasing, and payroll processing departments. You will assist with the preparation of accurate and timely financial reporting, including cash flow, and routinely provide financial support and analysis to leadership across the resort. In addition, you will be responsible for reconciling and maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, presenting financial information to owners, and partnering with the Managing Director of each resort on the resort’s long-term financial strategy. This position is based on-site in Woodlands, Texas and responsible for multiple properties and hotel brands.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and assume responsibility for proper execution of the Resort’s accounting practices, maintenance of accurate financial records, and the timely preparation of financial reports, account reconciliations and assigned tax reporting.
  • Assist in nurturing the important relationship with the Resort owners. Be responsible for supervising and coordinating reporting as required. Provide timely, concise monthly reporting for the Resort, custom reports as requested, respond quickly to questions or requests and participate in Partner and other appropriate meetings.
  • As a strategic partner, provide recommendations for capital planning, perform ROI analysis and participate in long-term strategic planning to improve margins.
  • Complete the annual internal audit and year-end external audit process. Review and approve all reconciliations and audit work papers. Coordinate internal and external auditor’s visits, respond to auditor requests, approve any and all adjustments, reconcile the audit numbers to the property numbers and approve the final audit.
  • Responsible for debt financing support including covenant reporting, lender relations and refinancing support as needed.  Review historical and projected cash flows. Responsible Take required actions to ensure cash flow is appropriately managed. Communicate to the responsible Property Operations executive, Regional VP of Finance and others, including owners, as necessary.
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation and review of all monthly and annual financial statements and account reconciliations. Investigate, review and analyze the variance explanations, and involve the department managers in this process. Ensure all narratives are well written and explain why the variance occurred.
  • Interpret operating results as they affect the financial aspects of the Resort, making specific recommendations that will result in cost reductions, profit improvement and benefit to the Resort overall.
  • Lead a robust team of ~15 individuals in the departments of accounting and finance, purchasing, and payroll processing. Be a cultural leader and mentor, and keep a pulse on external talent.  Recruit, train and develop team members with a focus on growing skills, process improvements and efficiency across multiple properties including succession planning.
  • Organize and drive the annual budgeting process for the Resort. Monitor and assist in preparing the property budgets, capital budgets, development budgets and business plans. Ensure accuracy and completion of the budgets on or before the due date. Aid in the preparation and final review of the annual business plan.
  • Check appropriation requests against approved budgets prior to committing funds; exercise accounting control to ensure that budgeted expenditures do not exceed authorized levels.
  • Coordinate integration of the development financial activity into the operating activity with the result being concise, timely reporting for the overall Resort.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (MBA or advanced degree and CPA preferred).
  • Experience with multi-property oversight including food & beverage finance, golf and event space.
  • Solution-oriented leader with previous supervisory experience required.
  • Systems expertise (ERP, BI tools, hotel accounting systems).
  • Experience and confidence presenting to ownership.
  • Experience with labor management and capital projects.
