Overview

Black Desert Resort, managed by CoralTree Hospitality, is a luxury destination set among the red rocks and lava fields of Southern Utah. Opening Spring 2026, the resort’s new pickleball complex is a premier, guest- and member-exclusive facility featuring 21 courts, including a Championship Court with seating for up to 1,000 spectators. Future phases will add eight additional courts. Designed by Swabeck Architecture, the complex will feature advanced performance technology, ball tracking, automated line calls for tournaments, heated and misted cabanas, and VIP and general seating.

 

Job Summary

 

The Pickleball Manager & Coach is responsible for launching, operating, and elevating the pickleball experience at Black Desert Resort. This role oversees daily operations, programming, scheduling, and guest engagement while serving as the primary on-court teaching professional. The position blends hands-on coaching with leadership, program development, and service excellence in a luxury resort environment.

This role is highly visible and guest-facing and plays a key role in establishing Black Desert as a premier pickleball destination for resort guests and members.

Onsite: Black Desert Resort – Pickleball Complex
Shift & Schedule Availability: Year-Round / Full-Time
Pay Range: $68,000 – $75,000/year. This is the range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the pickleball complex, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for guests and members.
  • Serve as the primary on-court teaching professional, providing private lessons, semi-private lessons, group clinics, and classes for all ages and skill levels.
  • Develop and manage court reservations, open play schedules, leagues, ladders, and usage guidelines.
  • Create and execute a year-round calendar of pickleball programming, including socials, clinics, exhibitions, and in-house tournaments.
  • Utilize performance technology for video analysis, swing and movement assessment, ball tracking, and player feedback.
  • Partner with Recreation, Membership, Events, and Marketing teams to integrate pickleball into guest itineraries, group programming, and member offerings.
  • Support budgeting, pricing strategies, and revenue generation for lessons, clinics, events, and retail offerings.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise additional pickleball instructors and attendants as programming expands.
  • Maintain court conditions, equipment, and cleanliness in coordination with Engineering and Housekeeping teams.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, risk management policies, and operational procedures.
  • Serve as on-site leader during tournaments, exhibitions, and peak usage periods.
  • Uphold Black Desert service standards and foster a warm, inclusive, and elevated guest and member experience.
  • Represent Black Desert Resort professionally within the pickleball community.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience coaching pickleball, including private lessons and group instruction.
  • Recognized pickleball teaching certification (PPR, IPTPA, or equivalent) required or ability to obtain prior to opening.
  • Experience designing and managing pickleball programming, leagues, and events.
  • Resort, private club, or high-end recreational facility experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and guest service skills.
  • Proven organizational skills with comfort managing schedules, systems, and basic budgeting.
  • Ability to use or quickly learn technology-based coaching and ball-tracking systems.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or ability to obtain prior to opening.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
