We currently have an opportunity for a well-rounded and seasoned IRD Server to join our Pier Sixty-Six Resort team! You will be an integral member of the team that creates distinctively different and authentic experiences for our guests. You will be responsible for greeting guests, running food orders, maintaining outlet cleanliness, and checking on guest satisfaction. You will use the freedom to go beyond to turn guest interactions into moments of magic.

Reporting to the General Manager, as a IRD Server, you will play a vital role in supporting our restaurant operations by ensuring cleanliness, efficiency, and guest satisfaction. Your diligence and dedication to service will contribute to the seamless flow of our dining experience.

Position Summary

The In-Room Dining Server delivers a restaurant-quality dining experience to guests in their rooms, suites, and other in-property locations. The role covers accurate order handling, careful food and beverage delivery, professional table setup in the guest room, and prompt service recovery. The IRD Server is often a guest's most personal point of contact with the hotel's culinary team, so this position directly shapes guest satisfaction and repeat business.

Key Responsibilities

Order Taking and Coordination

• Answer in-room dining calls promptly, ideally within three rings, with a warm and professional greeting.
• Take orders accurately, confirming dietary restrictions, allergies, special requests, and delivery times.
• Enter orders into the POS system and communicate details clearly to the kitchen, including allergy alerts and timing.
• Suggest menu items, daily specials, and beverage pairings to increase guest satisfaction and check averages.
• Quote accurate delivery times and update guests if delays occur.

Set-Up and Preparation

• Prepare trays, carts, and tables with the correct china, glassware, flatware, linen, condiments, and garnishes.
• Check each order against the ticket for accuracy, temperature, presentation, and completeness before leaving the kitchen.
• Maintain a clean, well-stocked service station and pantry.
• Complete opening and closing side work, including polishing silverware, restocking supplies, and cleaning equipment.

Delivery and Service

• Deliver orders within the promised time frame while keeping food at the correct temperature.
• Knock and announce yourself according to hotel standards, and enter the room only with the guest's permission.
• Set up the meal in the room, present each item, uncork or pour beverages, and explain any unfamiliar dishes.
• Offer to answer questions, and leave the room neat and welcoming.
• Follow up with guests when appropriate to make sure everything met their expectations.

Room Service Tray Retrieval and Reset

• Collect trays, carts, and dishware from guest rooms and hallways promptly, keeping corridors clear.
• Return soiled items to the dish area and reset service supplies for the next order.
• Report any damage, missing items, or unusual conditions in rooms to the appropriate department.

Guest Relations and Service Recovery

• Handle guest concerns, complaints, and special requests courteously, and escalate to a supervisor when necessary.
• Anticipate guest needs, personalize service where possible, and recognize repeat guests.
• Follow hotel procedures for VIP amenities, special occasion setups, and celebration deliveries.

Compliance and Safety

• Comply with all food safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene standards (HACCP, local health codes).
• Follow responsible alcohol service policies and verify guest age and identification as required.
• Adhere to cash handling, room-charge, and payment procedures, including accurate charge posting to the guest folio.
• Follow hotel safety, security, and emergency procedures, and protect guest privacy at all times.
• Report accidents, spills, and equipment issues immediately.

Team Contribution

• Communicate closely with kitchen staff, the front desk, housekeeping, and other F&B outlets.
• Take part in pre-shift meetings, training sessions, and menu tastings.
• Support colleagues during peak periods such as breakfast rush, late-night service, and banquet overflow.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in food and beverage service (hotel, restaurant, or resort), or the ability to learn quickly through training.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and a professional, friendly phone manner.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Food handler's certification (or willingness to obtain it within the first 30 days).
• Alcohol service certification, where required by local law (or willingness to obtain it).

Preferred

• One or more years of in-room dining, fine dining, or luxury hotel experience.
• Working knowledge of POS systems and hotel property management systems.
• Knowledge of wine, spirits, and food allergen awareness.
• Additional language skills, especially in a guest-facing market.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to stand, walk, and push or pull carts for extended periods (typically 8+ hours per shift).
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30–40 lbs, and to push loaded service carts up to 250 lbs.
• Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and carry trays at shoulder height.
• Regular movement between kitchen, elevators, hallways, and guest rooms, often at a quick pace.
• Exposure to kitchen environments, including heat, noise, and wet or slippery floors.
• Ability to work in a guest-facing environment with varied schedules and occasional high-volume periods.
