The Chief Engineer is responsible for providing the Engineering team with hands on knowledge and leadership to ensure the overall upkeep and safety of the resort. S/he will work to create a positive team environment, as well as achieving optimum performance. The Chief Engineer will assist with maintaining the AAA Four Diamond standards.

They shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. They will be responsible for exemplifying the Sunriver Resort Culture as well as promoting Sunriver Resort as both the Destination and Employer of Choice!

Responsibilities

  • Provides exceptional leadership to the engineering team
  • Manages the maintenance of both the interior and exterior of the resort
  • Schedules maintenance and repairs to not interfere with resort guests
  • Prepares forecasts and reports and assists in the development of the engineering budget
  • Assists housekeeping and front office in assisting in downtime
  • Updates and maintains engineering policies, procedures, work orders, etc.
  • Ensures quality work by engineering team
  • Maintains a strong knowledge of American Disability Act regulations
  • Recommends future projects as necessary
  • Maintains and refines preventative maintenance programs
  • Makes cost evaluation on in-house repairs versus subcontractors
  • Coordinates and managers all subcontractors
  • Works closely with vendors to assure proper pricing, delivery and maintenance
  • Maintains strong knowledge of OSHA requirements
  • Obtains competitive bids for all supplies and work orders
  • Oversees designated engineering projects
  • Uses environmentally friendly practices whenever feasible
  • Dispatches service calls promptly and with accuracy
  • Maintains a high level of understanding of local, state and federal building codes
  • Ensures all equipment is safe and operational
  • Acts as a back-up to Director of Engineering in his/her absence
  • Is immediately available in the event of an on-property emergency
  • Assists resort departments in maintaining a safe and acceptable working environment
  • Ensures a cost & time effective approach to all projects
  • Manages project timelines; anticipates the future
  • Supervises the performance, attendance, attitudes, appearance and conduct of grounds team
  • Offers expertise and knowledge to the engineering team
  • Recommends discipline and/or termination when appropriate
  • Manages timely completion of performance appraisals
  • Develops and implements controls for expense management
  • Assists with the development, training and inspiration of grounds staff for promotion
  • Provides prompt follow-up to all guest/associate concerns
  • Designs and implements grounds training programs
  • Utilizes labor management tools to schedule and control labor costs
  • Monitors staffs’ time in the Timesaver system to ensure payroll accuracy
  • Instills a calm, organized approach in all stressful situations
  • Works with HR to recruit and hire staff
  • Completes all proper new hire and termination paperwork
  • Orders grounds supplies, tools, machines, etc. and ensures proper stocking levels
  • Maintains a safe and pleasant work environment
  • Attends appropriate resort, division and department meetings
  • Maintains a strong morale and spirit throughout engineering team
  • Responsible for the achievement of department goals and objectives
  • Conducts staff meetings as needed
  • Maintains a strong knowledge of engineering, especially in hospitality, trends
  • Provides continual training to the engineering team
  • Assists with the coaching and counseling of engineering team
  • Provides clear direction of goals and objectives to engineering team
  • Assists the Landscaping Manager with the installation of the outside décor for Traditions Celebration
  • Maintains and repairs tools and equipment as needed
  • Provides general resort information for guests
  • Offers warm and sincere welcome/farewell for all guests of Sunriver Resort as s/he may come in contact with guests during his/her daily duties
  • Maintains an up to date working knowledge of all resort amenities as well as any special events
  • Interacts with resort staff in a professional manner, assisting other departments with necessary information
  • Up sells other resort services and amenities to guests
  • Always maintains a professional demeanor and attitude
  • Communicates all pertinent information to the engineering team
  • Maintains constant awareness of safety issues, (i.e. broken glass, frayed electrical cords, leaks, broken locks and suspicious persons). Reports all safety incidents to on-duty supervisor.
  • Acts with responsibility towards all company property, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a professional appearance. Follows all Sunriver Resort dress code standards.
  • Remains alert, courteous and helpful to the guests and colleagues at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic carpentry, electric and plumbing experience required
  • At least two years in a similar position preferred
  • Accredited or comparable industry training in basic electrical repairs, general heating and cooling and appliance repair required
  • At least three years experience in light electrical repairs, basic heating and cooling, carpentry, plumbing, furniture, appliances and general household repairs to include preventative maintenance procedures
  • At least two years of supervisory experience preferred
  • At least five years, preferably in a resort setting, of engineering experience preferred
  • Prior hospitality experience preferred
  • At least three years customer service experience preferred
  • Must have valid Oregon Driver’s license and meet company driving standards
  • Must be able to work with power operated landscaping equipment
