Overview

The ideal candidate for the Director of People Services role at Terranea Resort is a competent and confident leader in overall people strategy. An individual with firsthand experience in a complex resort, challenged labor market, and has demonstrated an ability to apply innovative solutions to staffing. They'll have a proven background in the oversight of training and development implementation, a strong legal orientation in California, and extensive experience in union avoidance. This individual is an associate centric leader that inspires people, but also is known to hold people accountable for their performance; brings innovative compensation program ideas that have greater value to today's job seekers; and comes from an organization who understands the make-up of an associate adaptable to the attention-to-detail and meticulous follow-through critical to the luxury market.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures company compliance with all wage & hour laws & other regulatory agencies and oversees management of property associate benefits.
  • Counsels employees & managers on employee relations issues and problems; ensures disciplinary actions & terminations are carried out legally & consistently.
  • Manages compensation programs through job & market analyses, & make recommendations on position wage ranges in a systematic and consistent manner.
  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of Performance Management. Ensures that pay increases and performance appraisals are completed, submitted and received in a timely manner;
  • Oversees all company-wide training & development programs that are administered in addition to the development of Terranea Resort custom training initiatives.
  • Oversees coordination of all employee recognition programs & events.
  • Responsible for giving clear direction to Risk Manager for safety, loss control, compliance & claims management functions.
  • Prepares & monitors HR budget & forecast.
  • Provides leadership to and supervises, trains, & evaluates HR staff.
  • Responsible for conducting annual associate opinion engagement surveys, and evaluating and communicating results. Also assists with scheduling & attending all associate meetings.
  • Participative member of Leadership and Executive Committees, & helps coordinate semi-annual Business Meetings for all Managers.
  • Manage all unemployment claims & represents employer at hearings.
  • Assume duties of EEO/ Affirmative Action Officer for the company as described in the company's Affirmative Action Plan.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7-10 years professional experience in People Services, including 3 years supervising and managing staff in the Hotel/Resort environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Business Administration, Human Resources, Communications, or related field. PHR or SPHR certification a plus.
  • Excellent command of various federal, state and local employment practices laws & regulations.
  • Proven track record of success in all aspects of recruiting, both international and domestic.
  • Strong experience with unions and/or union avoidance.
  • Previous experience in partnering with key leaders at the property to achieve property and organizational objectives.
  • Energetic self-starter, with strong leadership skills, work ethic, and highest level of integrity.

Location: On-site

Salary range: $190,000 - $210,000/yr. + bonus
