Terranea Resort, a premier luxury destination located on the stunning Southern California coast, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Communications & Creative (On Site) to elevate the resort's brand presence and communications strategy. Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing, this senior leadership role will drive the resort’s external messaging, oversee creative development for all collateral, manage public relations efforts, and spearhead social media and influencer strategies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of creative vision, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to help mentor a talented team, ensuring consistent, impactful messaging that resonates across multiple channels and elevates Terranea's luxury reputation.

 

This position requires an expert in content production, a deep understanding of luxury communications channels, and proven success in integrating multi-channel strategies. The Director of Communications & Creative will shape how Terranea's story is told, both in the media and through its brand presence, while working closely with internal stakeholders to align messaging and communications with business objectives.

Responsibilities

Communications & Public Relations:

  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans aligned with Terranea’s luxury brand and business objectives.
  • Lead PR initiatives, including media outreach, press releases, and building relationships with key journalists, influencers, and industry contacts in coordination with PR agency and Communications Manager.
  • Oversee reputation management efforts to ensure that the resort’s brand image remains positive, proactive, and responsive to external feedback.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure that all internal and external communications reflect the resort’s luxury standards.
  • Develop and execute tailored PR campaigns for key resort areas including rooms, F&B, spa, golf, weddings, and groups. This includes social media planning and strategizing, writing/editing press materials, and local/regional pitching efforts.
  • Manage Terranea’s PR agency, ensuring alignment with earned media strategies and the achievement of media goals (feature stories, Tier 1 media placements, etc.).
  • Set annual performance criteria for the PR agency and conduct agency reviews to ensure strong representation in key markets.

Creative Direction:

  • In coordination with the Director and Associate Director of Marketing, lead the creative development of all print and digital collateral, including brochures, digital assets, signage, and promotional materials.
  • Oversee creative direction for all photo and video shoots in coordination with the Director of Marketing and Creative Manager, ensuring visual assets align with the resort’s aesthetic and luxury experience.
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing team to ensure creative assets support broader campaign objectives and enhance guest experiences.

Social Media & Influencer Marketing:

  • Develop and execute a social media strategy in coordination with the Director of Marketing and Social Media Manager to increase brand awareness, engagement, and loyalty across all relevant platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
  • Manage influencer partnerships, ensuring alignment with brand values and maximizing ROI from collaborations.
  • Track, analyze, and report on social media performance, making adjustments to strategies based on business goals and metrics.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Manage a team of creative professionals, including a PR and Communications Manager, Social Media Manager, and Creative Manager.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture, providing mentorship, guidance, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Oversee team workloads, resource allocation, and project timelines to ensure deadlines are met and high-quality work is delivered on schedule.

Project Management:

  • Use Monday.com to effectively track and manage team projects, ensuring clear communication of project timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables.
  • Oversee the creation and management of project timelines, assigning tasks to team members, and tracking progress to ensure timely completion of all initiatives.
  • Provide regular status updates to the Director of Marketing and other key stakeholders, identifying potential roadblocks and proposing solutions to stay on track.

Strategy & Reporting:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and other stakeholders to develop integrated marketing strategies and ensure brand consistency across all platforms.
  • Regularly report on the effectiveness of communications and creative initiatives, including media coverage, social media engagement, overall reputation management, etc.
  • Analyze and adjust strategies to optimize ROI and continuously improve the brand’s presence across channels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in communications, creative direction, or marketing, with a preference for candidates in the hospitality or luxury sector.
  • Proven track record of managing a team and driving collaboration across cross-functional departments.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, influencer marketing, and reputation management, particularly in the luxury market.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills with the ability to craft messages that resonate with high-end audiences.
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for design and visual storytelling.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with project management tools like Monday.com to track and manage tasks and team projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in hospitality or luxury brand marketing and PR.
  • Proficiency in creative software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Established network of media contacts, influencers, and PR professionals within the luxury travel or hospitality industry.

Compensation

Base Pay Start Rate: $125,000 - $140,000/Yr.
