Job Summary:

 

The Sommelier at Basalt is responsible for curating and managing the restaurant’s wine program, providing expert wine service and education to guests, and supporting the General Manager in daily restaurant supervision. This hybrid role blends deep wine knowledge with leadership responsibilities to ensure an elevated dining experience aligned with Basalt’s fine dining standards.

  • Shift & Schedule Availability: Year-Round / Full-Time
  • Pay Range: $24/hour plus 4% commission on Bottle and Coravin by the glass sales

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update an extensive wine list featuring domestic and international selections aligned with the Basalt concept
  • Educate and train the service team on wine knowledge, pairings, and service techniques
  • Offer personalized wine recommendations and tableside service to guests, enhancing their dining experience
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and GM on wine pairings for seasonal menus and tasting events
  • Manage wine inventory, ordering, storage, and cost control in coordination with the GM
  • Assist the General Manager with supervising daily restaurant operations including floor management, service flow, and guest relations
  • Support scheduling, opening/closing procedures, and shift supervision as directed
  • Respond to guest feedback and service recovery situations professionally and proactively
  • Assist in curating beverage events such as wine dinners, tastings, or special pairings
  • Ensure compliance with all local and state alcohol service regulations and resort policies

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience as a sommelier or wine professional in a fine dining setting
  • Advanced knowledge of global wine regions, varietals, and food & wine pairing principles
  • Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers (Certified Level or higher) or equivalent preferred
  • Strong service and leadership skills with a refined, guest-centered approach
  • Experience assisting with restaurant operations, including supervision of staff
  • Excellent communication and training skills
  • POS system experience and basic inventory management proficiency
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and possess or obtain a valid Utah Alcohol Server Permit
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
