The Chief Engineer is managing the maintenance of all the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems throughout the hotel and managing the Engineering and Security Departments, establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs for all equipment, systems, guestrooms and public areas/ general maintenance; lead effective safety programs; coordinate and implement capital MEP improvement projects.  Management of outside contracts and the functions of the engineering department in managing the workflow (repairs, maintenance, mechanical, FF&E, Life Safety Systems), of the preventive and corrective maintenance systems. Responsible for the development, implementation and training schedule of extensive Engineering Manuals to include but not limited to Policies and Procedures, equipment locations and operations, Guest Request and House Request Program, Life Safety, location of shut-off valves, isolation valves and utilities mains. These manuals will also contain numerous maps, diagrams and blueprints to be used as reference material. Provide leadership, mentoring, training, career development and annual evaluations for all team members within the division. Further, it includes the distribution and follow-up of work orders to related individuals and departments. To meet the general purpose of this position an individual must be able to multi-task, be flexible and adaptable to differing situations.  A strong sense of responsibility and accountability is necessary for this position. Excellent interpersonal skills and good judgment are required for this position.

At Outbound Sedona, we’re searching for a dynamic and hands-on Chief Engineer to help shape the foundation, iterally and figuratively, of our high-desert retreat. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform, assign, and/or verify completion of routine and emergency maintenance and the operation of the physical structure of the hotel, all mechanical systems and any other systems which affect the operation of the facility.
  • Ensure the highest quality work standards are met by the team in all tasks and assignments according to performance and safety standards.
  • Ensure the execution of exemplary customer service standards by self and team, in all areas.
  • Assist with selection, training, supervision, development, discipline and counseling of staff in accordance with departmental and company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in utilization of an online work order system and distribute workflow in the most efficient manner.
  • Maintain inventory of PPE, engineering parts, supplies, tools, and material for the department.
  • Support and ensure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Support and assure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Assist with the implementation of the management company’s environmental policies and practices.
  • Assist with the implementation of safety programs.
  • Attend staff meetings if/when requested.
  • Lead/Attend Safety Committee meetings if/when requested.
  • Perform any necessary repairs or maintenance as required or assigned.
  • Execute Performance Evaluations for associates.
  • Perform Risk Management duties as assigned or required.
  • Conduct self as a resource for all departments of property.
  • Always maintain a professional image.
  • Maintain cleanliness and integrity of mechanical areas, shops, tool carts and tools.
  • Perform special projects assigned by the General Manager.
  • Available 24/7 for emergency contact.
  • Available to work any shift as deemed necessary.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
  • Oversee Security team members, create security SOP and ensure all security devices are working as intended to meet the security needs of the property.

 

 

Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate is a Skilled Engineer, Thoughtful Leader, and Safety Champion: 

  • Minimum five years' experience in the facilities management of hospitality related properties.
  • Proven track record in managing an efficient team focusing on preventative maintenance of the asset's public areas, guestrooms, building and resort grounds.
  • Experience in organizing, implementing, and maintaining a preventative maintenance tracking system and work order system.
  • Experience in coordinating and managing hospitality capital improvement projects, i.e. public areas and guestrooms renovations, FF&E repair and reupholstering, FF&E procurement, site and building maintenance and upgrades.
  • Proven command of the English language, both oral and written.
  • Proven ability to take charge and work with minimum supervision. Enjoys challenges and situations where solutions are not obvious.  Able to make decisions in a high stress environment.
  • Strong PC skills with an emphasis on Excel.

  • Must have extensive working knowledge of building systems to include but not limited to; HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, roofs, building finishes, mechanical operations, energy management and Preventative Maintenance Programs
  • Experience with Pool and Spa maintenance, water balancing and basic pool equipment functions.

  • OSHA laws require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing work duties that have a potential risk to your health or safety. The following is a list of some of the devices required. This is only a sample list and is not to be all-inclusive due to the nature of the work conductive to the Engineering Department.
  • Back support belts, protective gloves, eye protection, breathing protection, hearing protection, lock-out/tag-out protection and any other equipment necessary to provide a safe working environment.
