Job Summary:

 

The Complex Director of Recreation & Outdoor Experiences is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and daily management of all recreation-related departments and programming across both Black Desert Resort and Red Mountain Resort. This includes overseeing a broad portfolio of operations such as activities & programming, the pickleball complex, water park, guided outdoor adventures (e.g., hiking, UTVs), and resort fitness offerings.

 

This role plays a pivotal part in shaping the guest experience by providing dynamic, safe, and enriching recreation opportunities while collaborating with internal departments such as Membership, Rooms, Engineering, and Food & Beverage. The Director will lead cross-functional teams and innovate programming that aligns with the resorts' luxury and wellness-driven brand values.

Shift & Schedule Availability: Full-Time / Year-Round
Pay Range: $120,000 – $150,000/year This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic oversight of multiple recreation departments including resort activities, pickleball complex, water park operations, hiking/adventure programs, and UTV/outdoor excursions.
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage recreation managers and team members, ensuring strong leadership across each operational area.
  • Develop and implement a diverse calendar of experiences tailored to luxury guests, families, members, and group business.
  • Partner with Membership, F&B, Rooms, and Engineering teams to support shared activations, events, and facility coordination.
  • Manage department budgets, payroll, labor costs, and supply ordering across all recreation operations.
  • Ensure all safety, liability, and regulatory requirements are met across adventure programming and water-related facilities.
  • Maintain high guest satisfaction by monitoring feedback, implementing service recovery strategies, and upholding resort standards.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, licensing agreements, and third-party outfitter coordination as needed.
  • Support marketing initiatives by collaborating on promotions and storytelling around resort recreation offerings.
  • Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement across all departments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in recreation, hospitality, or adventure resort leadership.
  • Proven track record in managing complex, multi-outlet recreation operations.
  • Experience overseeing water-based programming, fitness/athletics, or adventure tourism highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements, liability waivers, and outdoor activity best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships across departments and with guests.
